Seb says - 'Flames' is about big concepts. Love, life and eternity. I've drawn on powerful symbolism and our rich calligraphic heritage to develop this work.
The Phoenix that is the figurehead in this print is a mythological fire bird that has come to symbolize eternity in the West. Similarly the circles and stars depicted have been symbols of eternity in a diverse range of cultures for thousands of years.
The aim was to try to create a dynamic, majestic, and hopefully beautiful piece of 'type art' that truly stands the test of time. I don't know whether I've achieved that, but I'm really proud of 'Flames'.

Additional Information
Trained in Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins, Seb Lester now works in London as a type designer and typographic illustrator.
His typeface designs are used by Intel, Dell, The New York Times, The Sunday Times, GQ Magazine and many other companies, institutions and publications worldwide.
He illustrates and animates with letterforms and produces limited edition prints and original canvases, which are becoming increasingly popular and collectible.
He's been interviewed by the BBC and The Independent Newspaper about fonts on movie posters and album covers respectively. His work has also been featured in Creative Review, Grafik, Computer Arts, 3D World, and numerous other publications worldwide.
He's passionate about letterforms.
