Ideas Above Our Station

Chances are you’ve had an idea. One that you’ve held on to for a while, occasionally taking it out for a polish, looking at it, thinking, refining. Concrete Hermit is our idea.

Chris Knight started the company in 2004 selling T-shirts online through the website that he built himself. Things soon started to grow and Concrete Hermit began collaborating with different artists, producing T-shirts, books and prints as well as stocking other items of interest from small brands and independent labels.

In 2007 we opened our first gallery/shop space in East London and hosted a great series of exhibitions running alongside our eclectic selection of products in the shop. We also took part in external exhibitions, not only at various fairs and events in and around London, but also traveling to Berlin and then to Tokyo in 2010.

In early 2012 with Chris's first baby on the way he felt it was time to move on and closed the gallery space in Club Row and moved to being an online operation once more.

Concrete Hermit is an idea that has evolved, an idea that is still being polished. The idea has a strong core though – a nucleus of friendships, connections and collaborations and a commitment to quality, design, intelligence and enjoyment.

Concrete Hermit remains a small independent company. We produce clothing, books, exhibitions and prints and we curate three niche retail websites. We believe that commitment to ideas can triumph over meaningless lifestyle hype. We are no longer sure what real is, but we’re doing our best to keep it real. We are Post Neo Old Skool.
